A Frosty Reception

Ryeburn of Helmsley's production manager David Otterburn gave free reign to his creative (and romantic) side recently, when he created a five-tier ice cream wedding cake for an ice cream-loving bridal pair.

Created from Ryeburn's sumptuous vanilla ice cream, the five round cakes were moulded to size by David and then decorated by hand - in front of a freezing cold blast freezer!

With plenty of breaks to warm up his frozen fingers, David decorated the edges of the cakes with silver dragees. Ryeburn's chocolatier Andrew Feather created slim white chocolate hearts, which were also applied to the ice cream cakes.

David then drove (very carefully) up to the wedding venue in the company's ice cream van. On arrival, he oversaw the florist's application of a series of fresh flower posies, created to echo the shape of the five-tier cake stand.

Then, on the signal from the top table, David and the waiters carried the cakes into the venue and placed them on the stand. As the newly-weds posed for photos (and resisted tucking in for a few minutes), David sprinkled edible glitter over the entire confection.

Now who'd have thought that a Yorkshireman, brought up on a dairy farm on the edge of the North Yorks Moors, would be able to come up with such a spectacularly romantic creation? Next time you see someone in muddy wellies and a dirty old waxed jacket, herding cows down a country lane, you might take a moment to wonder exactly what he's thinking...
